Matthew 28:19-20

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
The first command God gave to His creation was to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28). After the flood, Noah is commanded to be fruitful and multiply. God's family is fruitful and multiplies in Egypt, and now Jesus gives us the same command (Matthew 28:19-20). Be fruitful. Multiply. Go and make disciples. Teach them to obey everything I commanded you (that's how you bear fruit - John 15).

Fast forward to modern times, and somehow the command to be fruitful and multiply, the command to go and make disciples has become more about an evangelistic moment of salvation and an intellectual understanding of who God is. But God created a family and family doesn't happen when you transfer information. Family happens in a process of multiplication, when you transfer your DNA into another. Discipleship is the process of transferring spiritual DNA—multiplying your life into the lives of those around you.

What does discipleship look like at Garden College?

Everything at Garden College is focused toward discipleship—in class, out of class, even in our homes...discipleship is at the core of who we are. Discipleship has a leader and a follower. At the Ascent, you will be assigned to a leader, a guide, a coach, sherpa, to help you as you ascend the Mountain of God.

The main tool for discipleship we use is shema - a process of listening to God and doing what He says. In your "Shema Group", your leader will help you learn to hear God's voice, process what He is saying, and keep you accountable as develop your own plan in following Him.

Jesus picked disciples because he was building a family
